You know those moments when the light switch goes on in someone's heart and they 'get it'? Those are my favourite ministry moments! It doesn't matter what age, nationality or gender, whether I'm up front speaking, eating a frapp with a camper or reading an email... when someone understands something for the first time it's proof that the Spirit of God has done what only He can do.
My heart is to be a vessel that God can work through to flip the switch and open the eyes of people's hearts... and I'm committed to doing anything He calls me to to see that happen.
12 years ago, at Camp Berea, God allowed me to speak to my first group of campers... and I have since become addicted to the work He does through camp ministry. If you've served at a camp you understand the unique opportunities it creates to connect with people. I love prayerfully preparing creative chapel times inside or outside of a building. It's so fun to incorporate a high ropes course, archery range or waterfront into a message to help bring the Truth of God's Word to life in front of young people.
Some of my most favourite times at camp are the opportunities to hang out with campers outside of chapel times. God has taught me that the more time I'm able to connect with them around a meal table, swimming, hanging out at tuck or listening to memory verse, the more they are interested in what I have to say come chapel time.
During my very first week of camp in 2003, I can still vividly remember when I switched from telling the campers about the story of Joshua and actually began telling it as Joshua. It was like a switch went on in their minds and they engaged in the story in a whole new way.
I love teaching through dramatic monologues because the same effect happens with every age group and gender. People love stories, especially really good ones, and God's Word is the most incredible story ever recorded.
Some of the characters I've been include:
-Mary the mother of Jesus
Typically at camp, I will teach the lesson in the morning chapel in character and then draw out the main teaching points as myself during evening chapels.
God has worked powerfully through two of my favourite'stand alone' monologues to youth, women and whole congregations. I would be blessed to bring them to your group:
1. 'My Best Friend' by John the Beloved Disciple (Typically an Easter message)
*John tells the story of the cruicifixion from the perspective of one of Jesus' bests friends.
2. 'From The Cradle To The Cross' by Gabrielle the arc angel (Typically a Christmas message)
*Gabrielle tells the story of the Cross from the beginning to help hearts understand how Christmas fits into the Gospel message.
If there is story or character you would like me to work on a special monologue for, please let me know and let's start praying about it together.
I love what God does through AWANA (and other kids clubs)! I started as a Sparky and went all the way through to what is now called their Jr. leaders. One of my favourite challenges is to work with the Lord on simplifying the truth He puts on my heart to share it in a way that even the youngest clubber can understand it.
Each month I've been blessed with the opportunity to share God's Word at local Christian schools during their weekly chapels. The challenge of connecting one message with hearts and minds as young as Jr. Kindergarten to Grade 8 is one I think Jesus loved while He was here. He loved little children and was a master teacher using story, well thought out questions, object lessons and time just enjoying their company. I love sitting with this same Jesus and asking Him for tips on how He would best communicate the truth He puts on my heart to share.
